Checklist of extant species recorded in Chhep Wildlife Sanctuary, Cambodia
The data in this checklist resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 923 records.
1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Download the latest version of this resource data as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A) or the resource metadata as EML or RTF:
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Chhep Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) was first established by Government Sub-Decree in 2002 under the auspice of Preah Vihear Protected Forest. This protected area totals 190,027 hectares and, until 2016 the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) was responsible for its management. Since May 2016, jurisdiction of CWS was transferred to the Ministry of Environment (MoE). It is located in northern Preah Vihear Province, and borders Thailand and Lao People’s Democratic Republic. It is a part of Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot, which is one of the 25 global hotspots on our planet. The southwestern part of the wildlife sanctuary is contiguous with Preah Roka Wildlife Sanctuary, which forms a corridor between CWS and Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary. CWS is a protected area containing part of the largest contiguous tract of deciduous dipterocarp forest in the northern plains of Cambodia. The site is supported by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Cambodia program.

The personnel involved in the project:
Collated records from protected area project staff and published sources including journal articles, datasets such as iNaturalist Research Grade Observations and eBird, data from external researchers.
|Study Extent||Numerous surveys and observations from within Chhep Wildlife Sanctuary, from 2003 to date.|
|Quality Control||Selected taxa records assessed by experts. On-going improvements made to data quality.|
Method step description:
- Data collated from a variety of sources. Verbatim species names validated against the GBIF taxonomic backbone. IUCN categories reconciled using the API and the method outlined here: https://git-og.github.io/EasyOpenRedList/. Additional reconciliation sources not published here include Prakas 020 and 240, CITES, and GRIIS.
