Descrição
This dataset compiles occurrence records of ant species belonging to the Tapinoma nigerrimum species complex (notably Tapinoma darioi and Tapinoma magnum) across several Mediterranean urban areas, with a particular focus on the city of Montpellier (France). The data were produced within the framework of research activities conducted by the GRET (Research Group on the Ecology of Tapinoma), aiming to document the spread, establishment, and spatial distribution of these invasive ant species in urban environments.
The dataset includes occurrence data collected at multiple sampling sites. Species identifications were performed using genetic analyses, allowing reliable discrimination among morphologically similar taxa within the Tapinoma nigerrimum complex.
These data contribute to a better understanding of invasion dynamics, urban colonization processes, and the ecological impacts of invasive ants in Mediterranean cities.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Métodos de Amostragem
The study was conducted in several Mediterranean urban areas, with a primary focus on the city of Montpellier in southern France. Sampling sites were located across different types of urbanized environments, including residential neighborhoods, public spaces, and highly anthropized areas. The spatial coverage was designed to capture the distribution of invasive Tapinoma species along urbanization gradients and across distinct habitat configurations within cities.

Descrição dos passos do método:
- Ant occurrences were documented through targeted field surveys conducted at multiple urban sampling sites. Individuals were collected directly from colonies or foraging trails using standardized manual collection methods. Sampling aimed to cover a diversity of urban habitats where Tapinoma ants are known to establish, including pavements, gardens, building surroundings, and other anthropogenic microhabitats. The protocol focused on detecting presence and confirming establishment of invasive populations rather than estimating absolute abundance.
