Description
This dataset documents springtail communities and other soil fauna groups sampled across several public urban parks in Montpellier (France). Soil samples were collected to assess the influence of landscape structure and local environmental conditions on soil biodiversity.
The dataset includes biological data describing the abundance and species composition of Collembola and other soil fauna groups at each sampling point. Environmental variables related to landscape characteristics and soil physico-chemical properties were also collected, but are not included in this dataset.
The data were produced as part of a research project investigating the effects of urbanization and landscape fragmentation on soil biodiversity and soil ecological quality in urban environments.

Soil fauna were sampled using standardized soil core collection methods at predefined sampling points. Samples were collected to characterize the abundance and taxonomic composition of Collembola and associated soil fauna communities. Each soil sample was processed under laboratory conditions to extract invertebrates. Specimens were identified using stereomicroscopy and taxonomic expertise. This standardized sampling design enabled comparisons of soil biodiversity across parks and landscape contexts.
| Etendue de l'étude | The study was conducted in multiple public urban parks located within the city of Montpellier, southern France. Sampling sites were distributed across green spaces embedded in a Mediterranean urban landscape. The selected parks represent varying landscape configurations, vegetation structures, and degrees of urban influence, allowing the assessment of soil biodiversity responses to urbanization and landscape fragmentation. |

Description des étapes de la méthode:
- Field sampling involved collecting soil cores at selected locations within each urban park. Samples were transported to the laboratory where soil fauna were extracted using standardized extraction techniques. Individuals were sorted, counted, and identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level. Abundance data were digitized and taxonomically standardized. Geographic coordinates were converted to decimal degrees, and data were formatted according to Darwin Core standards prior to publication.
