Description
This dataset was collected in 2024 and 2025 as part of Clara Zimmermann PhD project and documents the diversity and community structure of ground-dwelling arthropods in Mediterranean vineyard plots. The objective is to assess how alternative viticultural practices, landscape context, and local conditions influence soil and ground fauna biodiversity in agricultural systems.
Sampling was carried out across a network of vineyard parcels representing contrasted management practices and environmental contexts. Harmonized protocols were used to collect multiple taxonomic groups using standardized trapping and soil sampling methods.
The dataset includes: - Spiders (Araneae): adult individuals identified to species; - Ground beetles (Carabidae): counts of individuals per sampling point; - Ants (Formicidae): occurrences and abundance from pitfall traps; - Springtails (Collembola): abundance/density derived from extractions on soil cores.
Environmental variables (e.g., farming practices, landscape descriptors, and soil physico-chemical properties) were recorded in the project but are not included in this dataset.

Méthodes d'échantillonnage
Sampling followed harmonized protocols across all vineyard plots. Ground-dwelling arthropods (spiders, ants, and ground beetles) were primarily collected using pitfall traps deployed at sampling points and retrieved after the sampling period. Springtails were assessed from soil cores collected at sampling points and processed using extraction procedures to quantify abundance (or density when available). Taxa were identified by expert determiners; spider identifications focused on adult specimens to allow reliable species-level determination.
| Etendue de l'étude | The study covers a set of Mediterranean vineyard plots sampled in 2024 and 2025. Plots were selected to represent contrasted viticultural management practices and different surrounding landscape contexts. The dataset focuses on ground-associated fauna communities sampled during standardized field sessions, with observations summarized as occurrences and abundances per sampling point and sampling period. |

Description des étapes de la méthode:
- Field data were collected at each sampling point and sampling period using standardized protocols. Specimens were collected in the field and subsequently identified by taxonomic experts. Occurrence and abundance information was recorded alongside associated metadata, including sampling dates, geographic coordinates, observers, and determiners. Scientific names were cleaned and harmonized prior to taxonomic enrichment using TAXREF, allowing the addition of identifiers and higher classification (class, order, family) when available. The dataset was then formatted according to the Darwin Core (Occurrence) standard.
